Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Jonathan L. Fairmont

Shepherd, Teacher, and Community Builder

Pastor Jonathan L. Fairmont has served as the senior pastor of New Psalmist Baptist Church since 2010. Known across Baltimore for his steady presence and compassionate ministry, Pastor Fairmont leads with a simple belief: “Faith should meet people where they are, and carry them where God is calling them to be.”

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Pastor Fairmont grew up in a close-knit church family where worship was both a Sunday tradition and a daily way of life. He discovered his calling to ministry at eighteen after volunteering in a youth outreach program. That early experience shaped his lifelong dedication to mentoring young people and strengthening families.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Hampton University and later completed a Master of Divinity with a focus in pastoral care and homiletics. During his early years of ministry, he served as associate pastor at two congregations in Virginia, developing a reputation for thoughtful preaching and hands-on community service.

After relocating to Maryland, Pastor Fairmont accepted the call to New Psalmist Baptist Church. Under his leadership, the church expanded its bereavement ministry, launched a family support network for grieving households, and created annual community remembrance services honoring those who have passed.

Pastor Fairmont is also a strong advocate for mental wellness and grief counseling in the faith community. He frequently partners with local counselors, hospitals, and nonprofits to provide resources for families navigating loss. His sermons emphasize hope, resilience, and the sustaining love of Christ, often blending Scripture with practical guidance for everyday life.

When he isn’t preaching or visiting families, Pastor Fairmont enjoys reading history, listening to classic gospel, and mentoring emerging ministers. He and his wife, Dr. Elise Fairmont, have been married for 19 years and are proud parents of two adult children.
